How the rating works: an Elo on goals computed by 11footy from the results, no outside ratings. After every match the winner takes points from the loser, more for a wider margin and for a win the rating did not expect; the home side starts 60 points up. Between seasons each club keeps three quarters of its distance from the average, and a promoted club starts at 1,450. Each league keeps its own scale, centred on 1,500: the rating ranks a team within its league, and across leagues it is a rough guide only. The strength of every team over time is on its page.
