The best defence of the last 12 years didn't win the league.
Atlético Madrid 2015-16: 18 goals conceded in 38 games, 24 clean sheets, 28 wins, 88 points.
In Spain, England and Italy, 16 of the last 36 titles were won with 88 points or fewer.
But Barcelona finished with 91 and Real Madrid with 90, scoring 112 and 110 goals. Atlético finished third.
Defence keeps you in the race. Sometimes the others simply run faster.
